This symbolic passage, revealed Wednesday by the French Cars Manufacturers' Committee, FCMC, is in line with an erosion observed since 2012, when the share of diesel still reached 73%. This contraction compared to 52.1% in 2016 is based on studies on the harmfulness of diesel pollutant emissions, the scandal on Volkswagen diesel engines and the tightening of standards and taxes after years of Fiscal favoritism. "By dint of diesel to the pillory, it has necessarily an effect" on the behavior of buyers, says Jean-François Belorgey, expert of the cars sector at EY, with the AFP.
