Orange Increases Its Rates Mobile Money, Consumers Grind Teeth: "The mobile telephony operator Orange has increased its Mobile Money rates since August 1, 2017. What has changed at Orange is that the transfer of money to a third party by Mobile Money, free in the past, is now payable by the issuer of the mandate. Kenya Launches a Credit Mechanism for Smallholder Farmers: "The Kenyan Ministry of Agriculture signed an agreement on Tuesday for $3 million with a local bank, Equity Bank, to increase access to credit for small-scale farmers whose contribution accounts for nearly 70% of the country's agricultural production. "This new credit guarantee program will provide small-scale farmers with access to funds to meet their essential input needs, such as seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. “We are exploring new financing models to allow smallholders to increase the viability of their business,” said Mr. Bett.
