WhatsApp and WEST BBDO have launched a global series of privacy activations designed to highlight the importance of secure and private communication. Taking place in four iconic cities – London, New York, Delhi, and São Paulo – these installations are part of the “Not Even WhatsApp” campaign, the messaging platform’s largest marketing effort to date.
The activations ran over the weekend of June 7th and 8th, captivating thousands of people with creative, interactive experiences. From privacy mirrors in London to secluded spaces with skyline views, each installation reimagines the concept of privacy in public spaces – echoing WhatsApp’s promise that thanks to end-to-end encryption, no one outside of your chats, not even WhatsApp itself, can see your messages.
In Delhi, the installation took over Connaught Place Plaza, while in New York, the High Line became a backdrop for these innovative privacy experiences. In São Paulo, Ibirapuera Park hosted the activation, offering residents and visitors a chance to reflect on the value of personal space in a digital world.
The project follows the launch of a 60-second TV spot that features prominent figures, including Bollywood star Aamir Khan as the voice in India, available in both Hindi and English. The overall campaign will continue to roll out across TV, online video, digital, out-of-home, and audio channels in the US, UK, Brazil, Mexico, and India.
Vivian Odior, head of WhatsApp marketing, emphasized the real-world relevance of the campaign: “We hope that anyone who gets to experience these activations can relate to the everyday importance of privacy in real life and in your online conversations.”
For users looking to manage their own privacy settings, WhatsApp offers a Privacy Checkup feature within the app, making it easy to control who can reach out, join groups, or send messages – helping to ensure conversations stay as private in the digital world as they are in person.
As the campaign continues to evolve, it underscores a simple message: privacy matters, everywhere.
