KitKat relaunches blockbuster to celebrate its sharing bars

KitKat has recently made a nostalgic move by relaunching the iconic 90s video rental store, Blockbuster, as part of an innovative campaign to celebrate the launch of its new sharing bars. The pop-up experience invites visitors to step back in time by selecting a movie, not on DVD, but through a streaming code valid on Rakuten. Plus, each movie selected comes with a complimentary KitKat sharing bar.

The KitKat sharing bars come in three flavors: double chocolate, salted caramel, and hazelnut. This initiative is not only delicious but also part of KitKat’s broader mission to reconnect people. A study conducted by the brand in partnership with Censuswide found that Blockbuster is among the most missed high-street stores by consumers.

This relaunch of Blockbuster is accompanied by KitKat’s message to help the British public “break better.” The research revealed that 35% of Britons struggle to switch off due to their phones, with 2 in 10 feeling uneasy when their phone is out of reach. Worse still, 75% of respondents admitted that their phone dependency affects their relationships.

Stephanie Scales, marketing manager for KitKat at Nestlé UK & Ireland, emphasized the importance of reconnecting with simple shared moments: “It’s more important than ever to stay connected with others in today’s hectic world. Whether it’s with friends, family, or loved ones, we want to take the nation back to when times were simpler and reclaim the joy of picking out a movie to watch together.”

The pop-up, located at 9 Greek Street, will be open from April 9 to 12, offering visitors a unique opportunity to relive the nostalgia of the past while enjoying a sweet break. KitKat invites everyone to rediscover the joy of taking time for themselves and others, through simple and authentic moments of relaxation.
