Fellow researcher Jack Parker-Holder echoes this, noting that real-time simulation is key to helping AI learn from environments—much like a child experimenting through trial and error.

The broader vision behind Genie 3 points to a future where we don’t just speak to AI—but share space with it. Instead of flat interfaces and passive responses, AI interactions could soon take place in rich, responsive virtual environments that mimic reality while enhancing creativity, communication, and learning.

As competitors like OpenAI gear up for the release of GPT-5, Google DeepMind is staking its claim on a different frontier: interactive simulations, where AI becomes an architect of experiences, not just a respondent. Whether this strategy gains traction outside the lab remains to be seen—but the implications are profound.
