In a campaign that blends environmental activism with unmistakable star power, iconic actor Samuel L. Jackson has partnered with European energy company Vattenfall to spotlight the unexpected ecological benefits of offshore wind farms—all while snacking on seaweed.

Developed by creative agency NORD DDB, the campaign introduces Wind Farmed Seaweed Snacks, a tongue-in-cheek yet meaningful concept rooted in real sustainability efforts. At the center of the initiative is Vattenfall’s Danish wind farm Vesterhav Syd, where seaweed is being harvested as part of the WIN@sea project, aimed at exploring how wind farms can serve dual purposes: generating fossil-free electricity and regenerating marine ecosystems.

“I’ll admit, I never thought I’d be promoting wind farms and seaweed snacks,” Jackson says in the campaign. “But here we are—and I’m all for it. These turbines don’t just generate clean energy, they help marine life thrive. That’s next-level thinking.”

A lesser-known fact about Jackson: before becoming a Hollywood legend, he studied marine biology. That background adds depth to his passionate support of the project, which he sees as a commitment to future generations. “It’s about the world we’re leaving behind. These wind farms aren’t just a solution for clean energy—they’re habitats for ocean life.”

The campaign will be broadcast across Vattenfall’s key markets—the UK, Sweden, Finland, Germany, and the Netherlands—using TV, cinema, digital, outdoor, and print channels. With OMD Sweden as lead media agency, the campaign aims to inform and inspire a wide audience about the hidden potential beneath the turbines.

“We wanted to challenge public perceptions about wind energy,” said Monica Holmvik Persdotter, VP Brand at Vattenfall. “There’s a whole ecosystem being supported under these structures, and this initiative—playful as it may seem—is rooted in serious, science-based innovation.”

While the Wind Farmed Seaweed Snacks, produced by Wavy Wonders in Denmark, won’t be commercially available, limited samples will be shared with selected audiences and Vattenfall staff as a symbol of what's possible when clean energy meets marine stewardship.

The campaign also includes community collaborations across local markets, where regional adaptations will help promote broader awareness of the environmental impact and potential of renewable energy solutions.

Once again, Samuel L. Jackson brings his unmistakable voice to a cause that matters. With humor, conviction, and a seaweed snack in hand, he’s proving that saving the planet can start with a bite—and a bold idea.
