The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) has launched a nationwide public-awareness campaign titled “Protect Your Personal Data”, aiming to educate citizens on how to avoid online fraud and protect their banking information. Produced by Tarek Nour Communications and starring popular Egyptian actor Essam Omar, the one-minute film transforms the complex issue of cybersecurity into an engaging, humorous, and accessible message.
Released in October 2025, the campaign reimagines financial awareness through a street-performance format. In the video, Omar walks through the bustling streets of Cairo, using a loudspeaker to warn passersby about common scams—from fake phone calls and phishing links to deceptive one-time-password requests. By incorporating real-life scenarios familiar to Egyptian users, the campaign translates technical cybersecurity concepts into everyday language that viewers can easily relate to.
Unlike traditional financial-education campaigns, which often rely on formal or technical communication, “Protect Your Personal Data” adopts a conversational and comedic tone. The film’s use of humor makes its message memorable, while its rhythmic storytelling and lively street visuals help bridge the gap between financial institutions and ordinary citizens.
The campaign was shot across several Egyptian locations, including boats, buses, and neighborhood streets. Its colorful imagery and dynamic pacing reflect the spirit of Egyptian street culture, using rhythm and movement to deliver a serious message in a lighthearted way. Actor Essam Omar’s performance brings credibility and charm to the campaign, helping it connect with both older and younger audiences who might otherwise overlook traditional banking messages.
Since its release, the campaign has achieved remarkable digital engagement: over 2.6 million views on YouTube, 30 million views on Instagram, and 160,000 interactions and 13,000 shares on Facebook. These numbers demonstrate its strong resonance across platforms and its success in capturing the attention of Egypt’s increasingly digital audience.
The initiative comes at a time when cybersecurity has become a national priority. As digital payments and online transactions grow rapidly, the Central Bank of Egypt has emphasized public education as a key pillar of data protection. The NBE’s campaign contributes to this effort by combining creativity, entertainment, and awareness to foster a culture of digital safety.
The “Protect Your Personal Data” campaign remains active across NBE’s official social-media channels and television networks. By turning cybersecurity into storytelling, the National Bank of Egypt is not only raising awareness but also reshaping how financial institutions communicate with the public in the digital age.
