The Moroccan Economy in Brief: Saturday, June 24, 2017: Social Entrepreneurship at the Heart of the 2nd Morocco Today Forum

1. The Program Contract with the National Agency for Energy Efficiency Should Generate Nearly 6 Billion Dirhams of Savings: "The National Energy Efficiency Strategy by 2030 was on the agenda of the Government Council on Thursday. Presented by Aziz Rabbah, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Sustainable Development, this strategy aims to reduce the dependence of the Kingdom which imports more than 52 billion Dirhams of energy products per year. According to Mustapha El Khalfi, Minister of Civil Society and Relations with Parliament, Spokesman of the government, this strategy will be declared as a program contract signed between the State and the Moroccan Agency for Energy Efficiency (AMEE). This program contract should enable the implementation of measures planned for the period 2017-2021."


2. Social Entrepreneurship at the Heart of the 2nd Morocco Today Forum: "After a first edition crowned with success, Morocco Today Forum (MTF), an annual meeting of Le Matin group, returns for a new edition on next July 7. Placed under the High Patronage of HM the King Mohammed VI, this major event will take place this year around the theme "Co-Development, the Vision of a King: Moving Forward Together Through Social Entrepreneurship."


3. More Than 34,000 Moroccans Residing Abroad (MRE) Have Returned to Morocco via Different Passages of the North-East Region: "A total of 34,742 MRE have returned to Morocco via the various crossing points in the northeast of the Kingdom since the launching of "Operation Marhaba 2017" until June 20, an increase of 16% compared to the same period in 2016. According to statistics from the Northeast Customs Regional Directorate (Nador, Oujda, and Al-Hoceima), which covering the period from June 5 to 20, the border post of Bab Melilia has recorded 5,008 arrivals, port of Nador (5,536), port of Al-Hoceima (216), airport of Nador El Aroui (11,437), those of Oujda-Anjad (8,773), and Cherif Idrissi of Al-Hoceima (772)."


4. New Measures Against Greenhouse Gas Emissions in the Pipe: "Focusing on sustainable and low-carbon transport of goods, the government is working on the implementation of new measures for the mitigation of emissions of greenhouse gas (GES) of the freight sector, mainly road and rail. The objective is to integrate climate change considerations in the transport of goods and, more generally, in the national strategy for the development of logistical competitiveness. The latter aims at, among others, a 35% reduction in CO2 emissions from the road goods transport sector, particularly through the rationalization of the goods circulation throughout the country."


5. IFC and Proparco Invest 135 Million Euros in Green Bond: "Banque Centrale Populaire (BCP) has successfully lifted its Green Bond in foreign currency. This is for a total of 135 million Euros (1.5 billion Dirhams). In fact, the International Finance Corporation (World Bank Group) and Proparco (a subsidiary of the French Development Agency (AFD)) respectively invest 100 and 35 million Euros in this issue of green bonds of Banque Central Populaire. This is the first issue of green bonds in foreign currency for the Kingdom. Also, "a first in the African banking sector", welcomes the top management of Banque Centrale Populaire."
