McDonald’s Malaysia celebrates International Fries Day with giant fan fries meal

title..

McDonald’s Malaysia went big for International Fries Day, rolling out an eye-catching limited-time offer from July 11 to 13, 2025. The fast-food giant introduced the fan fries meal, a supersized celebration designed as a tribute to its most iconic product — French fries — and their most loyal fans.

For the first time, McDonald’s made fries the absolute centerpiece of a full meal. The fan fries meal featured an XXL portion of fries — even larger than the former supersize format — complemented by a small fries and a refreshing drink, all priced at just 10 RM (around 2.30 euros). The offer was available nationwide across Malaysia, excluding delivery services.

The objective was clear: to give fry lovers what they had always wanted — a meal built entirely around fries, with no compromises.

In addition to the meal, McDonald’s transformed Kuala Lumpur’s bustling Bukit Bintang district into a fry-lover’s paradise. On the night of July 10, every digital billboard at the busy Jalan Bukit Bintang–Sultan Ismail intersection lit up in a golden yellow hue, turning the city center into a crispy celebration of fries.

At exactly 8:45 p.m., the giant screens synchronized to reveal the fan fries meal above the local McDonald’s restaurant, creating a visually striking moment. At the same time, passersby were treated to free portions of XXL fries, creating a festive atmosphere that was as shareable on social media as it was delicious.

This wasn’t McDonald’s Malaysia’s first bold tribute to fries. In 2022, the brand famously transformed a pedestrian crossing in Bukit Bintang into a giant French fry in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur’s city council. A year later, in 2023, McDonald’s projected a massive fry onto the iconic KL Tower, setting a new national record in the process.

With the fan fries meal, McDonald’s continued this tradition of bold, creative celebrations — blending culinary indulgence, urban spectacle, and strong brand storytelling.

The campaign quickly became a viral sensation on social media, drawing praise for its oversized portions, affordable pricing, and spectacular execution. The initiative sparked widespread enthusiasm across food communities and online platforms.

Beyond the marketing success, the campaign also reignited a timeless question: what makes fries so universally irresistible? Perhaps it’s their simplicity, their comforting appeal, or the instant joy they bring. Whatever the reason, McDonald’s seems to have perfectly captured the spirit of fries — turning them into the star of a vibrant, fun, and unforgettable celebration.

This isn’t the first time McDonald’s has pulled off creative cultural marketing. In Canada, the brand famously reimagined its products with a cowboy twist for a western festival. With the fan fries meal, Malaysia’s campaign now joins McDonald’s growing list of playful and immersive experiences enjoyed around the world.
