With Halloween fast approaching, Škoda is tapping into the spirit of creativity and family fun with its latest nationwide campaign, the ‘Šcary Škoda Challenge’, developed in partnership with Havas CX helia. The initiative invites the public to design the ultimate “Šcary Škoda” — a spooky creation built right into the boot of their car — using everyday household materials.
Blending imagination, craftsmanship, and Škoda’s signature spacious interiors, the challenge aims to transform the family car into a canvas for Halloween artistry. Participants are encouraged to share their homemade “boot beasts” online for a chance to win exciting prizes, while showcasing their creativity and festive spirit.
To kick off the campaign, Škoda has collaborated with renowned papercraft artist Hattie Newman, known for her intricate paper sculptures and imaginative installations. Newman appears in a step-by-step tutorial video, guiding viewers through the process of crafting their own ‘Šcary Škoda’. The tutorial will feature across Škoda’s digital platforms and in the October edition of the Škoda Driven newsletter, helping families bring their spooky designs to life.
Škoda retailers across the UK are also joining in the fun, transforming their showrooms with forecourt displays of custom-built “Šcary Škodas.” Each dealership has received a how-to kit along with digital and print materials to drive local engagement and encourage customers to take part in the challenge.
“This is the latest engaging customer-led activation we’ve created alongside Havas Helia,” said Kirsten Stagg, Head of Marketing at Škoda UK. “It highlights just how spacious our boots can be — with plenty of room for family fun and a little Halloween magic.”
For Jono Owens, Creative Director at Havas Helia, the campaign captures the essence of togetherness and playful reuse: “The Šcary Škoda Challenge is not just about celebrating the spooky season; it’s about rediscovering the joy of creativity as a family. We’re encouraging everyone to grab what’s lying around the house and turn it into something imaginative, eerie, and fun.”
The ‘Šcary Škoda Challenge’ is now open for entries across the UK, with more updates and Halloween-themed content rolling out through Škoda’s online channels in October. Whether it’s cobwebs made of cotton wool or cardboard bats hanging from the ceiling, this challenge proves that a little imagination — and a Škoda boot — can go a long way in creating a frightfully good time.
