Lidl GB is rolling out the second year of its Lidl Foodies programme, designed to encourage healthier eating habits among schoolchildren in the UK. The initiative offers teachers free interactive lesson plans, fruit and vegetable vouchers, and a range of classroom resources.
More than 200,000 children took part in the first edition, and this year the first 750 schools to sign up will each receive a £100 Lidl gift card. Developed in partnership with the National Schools Partnership, the programme blends workshops and hands-on activities to help pupils explore fresh produce in a fun and engaging way.
Matt Juden-Bloomfield, head of CSR at Lidl GB, said: “We want to show children that fruit and veg can be fun, flavourful and full of goodness. In just one year, pupils have discovered new ingredients, learnt where their food comes from, and even started growing their own.”
Research shows that 73% of teachers feel underprepared to talk about dietary diversity due to lack of resources, training and time. Lidl has already invested more than £500,000 in Foodies to fill that gap. “Healthy habits don’t happen overnight, but by planting the right seeds early, we can nurture a generation confident with healthy food,” Juden-Bloomfield added.
