Streaming platform U launches cheeky new campaign “U Talking to Me?” with Bill Nighy

Streaming service U has unveiled a bold new brand campaign titled “U Talking to Me?”, produced with Armoury and directed by Rollo Hollins. Designed to cut through the noise of the crowded streaming market, the campaign leans into humor, personality, and star power to capture attention.

The campaign centers on U’s core promise — “lose yourself in what you love” — but flips it into a playful narrative. Legendary actor Bill Nighy lends his instantly recognizable voice, delivering a series of comic misunderstandings as he repeatedly shouts “U,” before the reveal that he’s been referring to the streaming platform all along.

The result is a spot that feels refreshingly different from conventional streaming ads: light-hearted, irreverent, and memorable. For Hollins, known for his dynamic visual style, the challenge was balancing humor with U’s brand identity. “Creatives know what they’re going to get from me, but the goal is always to surprise and delight with a sneaky bit of heart,” he explained.

Speaking about the process, Hollins added: “A lot of it came from us literally shouting ‘You/U’ at each other on Zooms, in cabs and on set breaks. The creative was so strong from the start that my job was really just about translating it to screen and amping it up. And, of course, I got to ask Bill Nighy to say U about sixteen billion times.”

With its cheeky tone and distinctive voiceover, “U Talking to Me?” positions U as a platform that doesn’t just deliver content, but also personality — and a wink to its audience that they are at the heart of everything.
