Google Pixel 10 and Cossette spotlight AI at TIFF with playful “movie night” campaign

title..

As the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) kicks off, Google and Cossette are seizing the cultural moment to introduce the Google Pixel 10 with a campaign that shows how artificial intelligence can be both practical and relatable. At the center of the activation is Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, stepping in to solve one of the most familiar debates of modern life: deciding what movie to watch.

Movie night indecision — the endless scrolling, the group disagreements, the fading enthusiasm — is a frustration nearly everyone knows. The new campaign flips that scenario by putting Pixel 10’s Gemini assistant in the spotlight, positioning it as the smart, easy solution that helps families and friends settle the score and keep the excitement alive.

“TIFF is a cultural moment that brings Canadians together through storytelling,” said Vaisnavy Sivayoganathan of Google Canada. “With Pixel 10's built-in Gemini assistant, we saw an opportunity to show how helpful AI can be in the small, shared decisions that shape those moments, like finding the one movie everyone can actually agree on.”

The creative unfolds across cinema-inspired OOH installations in downtown Toronto, with tongue-in-cheek copy referencing movie night disputes. Posters feature lines like “He wants artsy fartsy. I just want explosions.” alongside nods to cult favorites such as Drive and Jennifer’s Body, capturing the humour and drama of pre-movie standoffs.

On social platforms, short-form animations and stylised streaming menus extend the theme, while live-action spots dramatise scenarios of indecision — each resolved with a Pixel-powered suggestion that leaves everyone satisfied.

“As TIFF celebrates 50 years and Pixel 10 makes its debut, this campaign brings two cultural moments together in a way that feels fresh,” explained Dana Ciani of Cossette. “By tapping into the universal chaos of movie night, we’re showing how AI can fit seamlessly into real life — not through technical jargon, but by solving a problem everyone relates to.”

With its sharp timing, cinematic flair and culturally savvy storytelling, the campaign positions AI not as a futuristic abstraction but as an everyday ally, turning the Google Pixel 10 into a co-star of life’s shared rituals.
